Workshop venue

The 3rd European Hail Workshop will take place at Campus South of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Karlsruhe, Germany, formerly University Karlsruhe (TH). The workshop will be held in the Tulla-Hörsaal (Tulla Lecture Hall):

Travel details

Public Transport

Campus South is located in the city center of Karlsruhe and easily reached by public transport.

For a convenient connection to Karlsruhe central train station, information about travel data of the German Railway is provided by the Deutsche Bundesbahn. Below, you will find several ways to get to Campus South by tram from Karlsruhe central train station. Departure times are available on the website of the Karlsruher Verkehrsverbund.

Tram line 2 (direction Wolfartsweier),
Tram line S1/11 (direction Hochstetten, Neureut),
Tram line S4 (direction Bauerbach, Bretten, Eppingen, Flehungen, Heilbronn, Öhringen, Weinsberg)
Tram line S7 (direction Tullastraße)
Tram line S8 (direction Tullastraße)

Please alight at the stop Kronenplatz (Fritz-Erler-Str.). From there it is a short walk to Campus South. Trams operate in 10-minute intervals; traveling time is 8 to 10 minutes. You can find an interactive city map here.

By Car

Depending on your route, you will reach Karlsruhe either via Motorway A5 from North/South (Frankfurt / Heidelberg and Basel / Freiburg), Motorway A8 (Munich and Stuttgart) or Motorway A61 (Cologne and Koblenz). More information can be found here. There are several road works and construction areas in Karlsruhe, so we recommend using an updated navigation system.

Please note, if coming by car:

In general, the university campus is not accessible by car. Public parking is available on the parking lot "Waldparkplatz am Adenauerring" (; Link Google).

Daily access to the KIT area can be requested in advance by sending an e-mail (please two weeks before the workshop start). Access by car is only possible under these conditions; visitors must then use the main campus entrance. At the KIT registration desk (on the ground floor of the library, Building 30.51) you will receive an entry permit (day ticket). Parking places are scarce.

By Plane

For long-distance visitors, the nearest airports are Stuttgart, Frankfurt, and Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden.

Airport Stuttgart

  • Take tram line S2 or S3 to Stuttgart central station, then change to a train to Karlsruhe (for departure times, please see the train schedule of German Rail, Deutsche Bundesbahn).

Airport Frankfurt

  • The long-distance train station is near the airport. Once you get there, take a train to Karlsruhe (for departure times, please refer to the train schedule of German Rail, Deutsche Bundesbahn).

Airport Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden (Baden-Airpark)

  • Airport buses, available at Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport will take you to the train stations of Rastatt or Baden-Baden where you will find trains leaving to Karlsruhe. The Baden-Airpark-Express line will take you to Karlsruhe central station.
